Reliable like a Payukan

From our travels in the Philippines I was lucky enough to meet a Payukan (which means sea
turtle in tagalog). When twilight comes the sea turtles lay their eggs on the beach. Majestic,
she digs a hole in the sand carefully and lays about 150/200 eggs resembling ping pong balls
(however only 1% will go on to become adult Payukans. The mother turtle/she closes the
hole with her hind legs and leaves the same way as she came, diving back into the South
China Sea. She will return within 15 days between 3 and 5 times to lay more eggs on the very
same beach.

When choosing the name of our Brand, we wanted to find a name thats demonstrated the
sandals qualities; strength, endurance, elegance, Payukan was the clear choice.
The design on the Payukan logo was largely inspired by the shape of our favourite turtle's shell.

Today many turtles are threatened by extinction, particularly the Payukan.

The story behind the sandal by Nicolas Plestan

After a 15 year professional football career in France and Germany, I decided to leave the (out of the ordinary) bubble, in order to have a second life as well as having a new challenge: A personal need and a unique idea led me to create my own brand.

Moving to Thailand was a complete change of life. It gave me a new outlook on life, with an open mind, I was able to see clearly the new requirements for a sandal.

From then on, with my feet in the water, I looked for sandals which were comfortable, as I was not able to wear the regular Y-shaped flip flops. Despite looking endlessly, I never found suitable sandals. They were either too sporty or too ugly, too formal and not well adapted to the sea and sun or simply the sandals were not durable or resilient to perspiration.

From my travels around South East Asia, I noticed that I wasn't the only one in this situation.

Therefore, I decided to create my own brand of sandals where comfort, quality, and style united. Payukan was born: urban, beachy, clean, stylish and elegant.

Now I wear them, from New York to Miami, in St Tropez, Ibiza and Tokyo. Wear them wherever, whenever, with a backpack or more dressed up at beach parties.

I hope that you will appreciate them like I appreciate them!
